Role titleLeisure-time Support
Purpose of the role

Are you friendly, kind, with a good sense of humour, willing to get to know somebody new and offer good leisure buddying relationships?   Based on mutual respect and shared interests, you will be making a real difference to help them back into the community, meet up with friends/ share social activities. You will be supporting independence and wellness. This could mean assisting someone to:

  • Go out for lunch or dinner.
  • Meet up with friends.
  • Attend an organised group such as a craft class, or coffee club.
  • Attend an exercise class.
  • Attend support group.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Play a board game.
  • Share a cuppa.
What you will be doing

Can be face to face or virtual. In both cases Leisure Buddies are supportive and positive, providing assistance with leisure time and opportunities for friendly conversations. This could involve taking the person your matched with to social gatherings or simply providing transport. You may assist them during the engagements as well. You will also be asked to give feedback about your support activity to the relevant  Community Connector/VCP officer at reviews.

Skills, experience and qualities needed
  • Access to own PC/laptop if volunteering to support virtually.
  • Kind, considerate and outgoing personality.
  • Good communication and listening skills.   
  • Car owners and non-car owners for home based activities for example, playing a board game, doing crosswords.
  • Sociable and enjoys getting to know people.

Other relevant informationBasic DBS required, arranged by Cheshire East Council. Own PC/ or laptop needed if to offer support ‘virtually’.
