Purpose of the role

Do you love playing games, interacting with elderly people and listening? If you’re an active and bubbly person looking for a flexible role that gets you out and about meeting people in Nantwich then come and join our friendly team.

Dementia Friendly Nantwich (DFN) are a local group of volunteers that are championing the journey for Nantwich becoming a dementia friendly town. Part of that work is about raising awareness amongst the community and some of it hopes to improve access to support/activities for those living with dementia their family, friends and carers so they can remain connected to community life for as long as possible enjoying life and participating.

DFN Vision

To improve the lives of those living with dementia and their carers

Mission

To Create a Dementia Friendly Nantwich as a town where people with dementia are understood, respected, supported, and confident they can contribute to community life.

Volunteers are already incredibly important to our work and we welcome individuals, who are keen to volunteer and support us in a number of exciting and enjoyable ways.

One of our most successful groups is the Thursday Club. A volunteer led group that takes place at St Mary’s Church hall every other Thursday from 10am-12.30pm. Each session has an activity leader and two supporting volunteers. The aim of the Club is to provide a safe place for people with dementia and their Carers to come along, enjoy an activity, have a brew and meet with friends.

What you will be doingMeeting a few people with dementia and their carers and accompanying them when they attend the club, befriending along the way helping those attending to have an enjoyable time and encouraging simple conversations and friendship.  You will help people participate in activities and spend time chatting with people with dementia and with their carers. Helping out with setting up the room, tidying up afterwards and making hot drinks for guests.
